1st things 1st…Congrats. on the birth of your little boy. Thrilled to hear everyone is a-okay.
I just had a chance to listen to cribcast 1….very interesting…I just wanted to add a few things on the different things that where mentioned, from what I experience.
One of the scariest moments after Ava was born was probably when she was 11 days old, it was the 1st time I was ALL ALONE w/ Ava….I got so scared bc it was then I realized I am responible for this little person for many years to come and to make the situation worst, she was crying @ the time and I could not comfort her, I got so overwhelmed and started to cry myself. Once I got Ava settled I spoke to Jerry (my husband, whom was away on business) on the phone, I broke down again…it was such a scary thought about all the life decisions you will be making for your baby & if they will be the right ones and so on….I felt like that for about 2 days and then I was much better. Don’t get me wrong I still have a fear of my choices of parenting skills & what kind of person Ava will turn out to as a results of our choices but I’ve learned to just take one day @ a time and enjoy the present.
Now to add to the emotional stress of those days, actually the 1st month of trying to get the breast feeding down, I almost quit 5 or 6 times bc it hurt so much, plus having the fear that I was starving my child bc you just never know how much your baby is getting, but w/ the help of a great lactation specialist @ the moncton hospital (Lynda Laclaire) and the support of family & friends & this wonderful cream for your nipples called Lansinoh I hung in there and everything finally worked out. Heck Ava is almost 9 months & breast feeding is going so well that she does not want to stop, which leads me to my next point….I would say 4 weeks into breast feeding, start giving a bottle @least one feeding a day (breast milk or formula)just to get them use to having both the breast & a bottle, bc Ava will NOT take a bottle now, so it is making the weaning process abit difficult. If I had only known!!!
There was something mention about the babys neck…one thing I found is when giving a bath…it is very hard & the baby will not like it but you have to get under the baby’s chin/neck to wash & dry, it is very important to do so, other wise the skin gets raw and smelly.
A little tip on the car seat….I heard on the news one day that approx. 95% of car seats are installed improperly. They suggest to go to either your local police dept. or Fire dept to have them check it….so I went to the fire dept. & guess what, ours was not installed properly…it is now though!!!!
Well that is my 2 cents….I am loving the crib chronicles….keep it up.
Good luck and enjoy the days to come w/ your precious little baby…each day is even more amazing then the day before!!!!
