and the friend of the year award goes to Auntie Sae
Posted by bon under stuff stuff, stuff to buy
Oscar got a package in the mail yesterday…a belated birthday box all the way from Korea.
Miffy has come to our house! Miffy for mommy Oscar!
oh, the rabbity goodness.
in the box: a Miffy doctor set (with a patient chart in Korean, no less…tres chic). Miffy growth chart. Miffy teezle (way cool, kinda confusing). Miffy wallpaper border. Miffy markers. Miffy puzzles.
mommy Oscar is over the moon.
daddy is a little hesitant about the Miffy wallpaper…because i want to put it in OUR room.
okay, mommy has a little Miffy problem fetish. and Auntie Sarah is enabling me…mwah ha ha.
so, how long do you think i can get away with pretending this stuff belongs to O? and how long do you think it’ll be before the neighbourhood kids start, erm, suggesting that perhaps Miffy the rabbit is not the coolest accoutrement for my little boy?
damn gender police.
i should really get a Miffy sign to protest with…

Heh. I love this. Have you read about fussy’s legal issues with Miffy?
When Jack was two, he was in love with Dora. Truly. And in Target he asked me if he could have Dora pull-ups. Sure, I answered blithely. So we went over to the diaper aisle, and there they were, only they were pink. Why, I don’t know. Dora never struck me as a pink kind of little girl.
And, dear bon, I failed. I couldn’t get him those pink pull-ups, because I knew what would happen to him at preschool if I did.
Sigh. I still ruminate about that bad parenting moment.

That’s the problem with having boys, isn’t it? The *@#$ gender typing. There’s lots of stuff that I like that I don’t buy because some people would deem them as too girlie. I know I shouldn’t care, but whatever. And yet, girls can like boy-type stuff with no comments from the peanut gallery.

snort. at least it is a rabbit and it has it’s own show on Noggin now. Cool. Hmm. Maybe until he is five if you teach him to LOVE Miffy too.

omgoodnessgracious!
thanks to Slouching Mom, i have just discovered that Miffy items are not to be displayed lovingly on momblogs.
http://www.fussy.org/2007/03/mffy-kerfuffle.html
apparently, if any of you could actually SEE the image of Miffy, immensely cute rabbit, in the picture of Oscar, immensely cute boy, that i posted above, i could get my immensely cute ass sued. neat. i guess there’s no fair use policy in place in Holland.
and i was going to email Fussy (mommyblogger and fellow Miffy lover who apparently trundled innocently into this quagmire previously)…but i discovered upon landing on her site that her father has just died. so i’m pretty sure my Miffy fetish isn’t the most appropriate foundation for trying to stand in solidarity with her right now…
but wow.
who knew one little rabbit with an x for a mouth could cause furor?

As I was previously unfamiliar with the Miffy of whom(?) you speak, I now find myself aware of an apparently enormous knowledge gap and of a dire need of rectifying said gap. If I understand correctly, I will see you fine people in a few years, upon my return from Miffiness. Yes?

Who the hell is Miffy? I need to do some research apparently.

I think Oscar looks dashing in his Miffy adjuma visor. I’m glad the package arrived intact. I gotta confess, though, that I never realized that Miffy was gendered. All along I thought that he/she is/was the perfect “yellow” character. How little I know, it seems.
Oh, and if you can convince Dave that Miffy trim is appropriate for your bedroom, there’s more where that came from!
Happy that we made you happy.

cuuuuuute.
my oldest nephew, when he was about 3, desperately wanted to be a spice girl. to the point of naming his new (orange) cat ginger spice. really.

I could sing you the theme song, if you like.
What is a teezle?!

May 18th, 2007 at 2:15 am

Miffy! A cute little bunny. (and now I hope you watch the show and can sing the little song.) My Boy wore his Miffy shirt today, eerily enough - it’s red and came straight from Holland, home of the Miffster. It hasn’t occured to him yet that he is something less of a manly man in his Miffy shirt, and he’s 5.

No need to pretend the cuteness of Miffy isn’t yours! I had once planned to call my blog “cuteness uber alles.”

I love Miffy! Don’t listen to the gender police, not at this age (or ever if it were up to me!).
Adorable.

Miffy, huh? What’s so bad about Peter? Aside from his obsession with lettuce, french beans, and radishes.
May 18th, 2007 at 3:55 pm
I like Miffy, but I still love Hello Kitty…does that make me old and really uncool?
Miffy’s creator needs to get with the idea of guerrilla marketing…um, who reads blogs? Moms. Who is the biggest shopping market next to tweens? Um, moms.

He looks adorable!
Your fetish sounds like my fetish for the Steve era Blue’s Clues.

I don’t understand the Miffy phenomenon. One day you Miffy lovers are going to have to explain it to me.

Hi Bonnie -
I quick note from an old Mt A classmate…
I have been reading your blog for a while now, enjoying every entry, even the ones which have made me teary.
Anyway, couldn’t resist a comment on MIFFY.
I AM SO JEALOUS!
Miffy was my favorite growing up, long before she was on TV. I have never even seen the TV show. Now, I am introducing my Isabelle (2 1/2) to her and she loves Miffy too.

Miffy, a cute little litigious bunny? Hmmm.
May 19th, 2007 at 2:31 am
I like Miffy okay, but her friend Grunty kind of freaks me out, you know?

I recently got into Miffy cause my 2 year old loved this little board book I got at the library. Well unfourtunately there are no more Miffy books (which i need to suggest) and apparently all the Miffy products are sold in the UK, AU,and China. I just found out I am expecting and would like Miffy nursery stuff no matter if I have boy or girl. I saw this orange white pattern adorable on a UK Mifffy site. Anyways I am currently looking for Miffy stuff for my boy where did you buy the cute stuff from.

Oh yes I would like some Miffy stuff too. She comes second to Hello Kitty there should be a boy Hello Kitty theme of products like her boyfriend Daniel for boys. Also there should be a Miffy doll with pants because although sometimes you can’t tell most of the time she wears a dress but my little boy wouldn’t care he likes the darn bunny,
