a plague of tone-deaf locusts

okay, i exaggerate. more like a plague of snot and coughing and excrement.
and sticky little hands reaching up for comfort, leaving trails of bodily fluids to mark where loving’s been. we’re sick, here. bebe is sick. mama is getting sick. mama is stressed, and stretched, and confused. you ever have one of those days weeks where you feel like you’re sinking deeper and deeper in a hopeless mire of stuff you’ll never get on top of, or even comprehend? and like, all of a sudden, you’re failing?
sometimes i feel like i’m failing. in those moments, i’m not even sure what i’m failing at. i’m just going along, living my life, singing my heart out, and then…i go flat. i lose the tune. i can’t seem to put the stray bits back together.
i find myself lost…in the middle of a day, in the middle of my song, sure the locusts are descending and powerless to move.

while i’m busy gluing my head back together, go see Mad and jen about a real plague that they’re rallying us to take on for their six-month anniversary, just in time for the Just Posts. AIDS in Africa, the six-month gift. a pestilence and tragedy of a scale that makes me want to scurry away in shame and delete all my petty whinging. beats those cheap paper and tin anniversaries, friends. join in.

Hope you and O feel better soon, Bon.
Nothing worse than trying to get snot smushed into a shirt’s shoulder after a sick toddler has smashed and smeared his goo into it…

Ugh. I hope yer all better real soon.
I feel like I’m failing ALL THE TIME. And yet I never stop to examine the possibility that maybe I’m expecting too much of myself.

Feel better, both of you.
And I wonder sometimes at our strange similarities, because I know the way one day responsibilities can seem light and easy, and the next the very same chores seem overwhelming and heavy. The chores haven’t changed, but somehow I have.

Been a bad week of failing and flailing for me too and I don’t even have poetic prose like “leaving trails of bodily fluids to mark where loving’s been” to show for it. Hope things are better soon. My head is just now scarcly out of the fog.

yes. I know that feeling, too. It comes rumbling and crashing in like a swiftly moving thunderstorm, darkening the daylight, blowing the curtains. I hope it blows through.

we’ve just finished battling the joint illnesses…it’s a bitch, plain and simple..just hold on….sister..just hold on.
and thank you. love you.

Yes. I do know that feeling… just recovering from all-family illness and that feeling.
Hope you get well soon.

It’s so hard to be sick AND look after a sick baby at the same time – and I’m always so scared when my baby is sick, scared of that desperate appeal in their eyes for me to make it stop. Gah.
Hope everything is much better by now.

I am not even sick, and I know that feeling. Sometimes I feel like I am failing when I turn on that damn Baby Einstein video for the third time in one day. I feel like I am failing when I can’t get my baby to sleep through the night. I feel like I am failing when I find my daughter playing in the dog’s water bowl. The good thing is that this feeling is fleeting and temporary. Hang in there – things will be better soon.

YES.
Hang in.

It is very, very hard to mommy (as in the verb) when you and the wee one are under the weather. Cut yourself some slack.
Get well soon, the two of you.

Ug, I hope you feel better soon. Often heard around the house, “Let me get you a tissue honey. Oh never mind, now that you’ve rubbed your face on my sleeve.”

I know just how you feel. From the looks of the comments, so do lots of people.
Hang in there.
Everyone get well soon.

Yes, you go flat, you lose the tune. Still, you know that you know how to sing.
Or something like that.

I know that feeling only too well.
Hope you’re all feeling better soon.

A bane on households everywhere: the common cold. I’ve been sick for what seems like an eternity, and the little one got it from me. My left shoulder is always slightly encrusted with…something. Eew.
And yeah, flat? It’s something I feel and know in this current chaos.
Hope you’re all on the mend soon.

Yes… I know exactly how that feels. Ironically it could be during a week when you have accomplished great feats of greatness. Sending you some healing wishes.

I hope you are well soon.

Don’t underestimate the toll that sickness and lack of sleep and such take on a person (YOU). I’m always astonished at how the equilibrium of life and brain get so unbalanced so quickly.
