In reading this wonderful post I recall vaguely a trip Mo and I took in 2003 from Charlottetown to QC, undertaken late in the day, kind of without a plan, ending late at the (le?) Motel Charly in some rather flat-looking off-season ski town just east of the city. The hotel room smelled like the inside of a chainsmoking lung but was nowhere near as bad as the room of the previous week at the Burmashave or Beaverwax of Fredricton or something like that. I want to go back there, not to the pre-breeding days, or the Beaverhat, but to Quebec City, its river, its food, and the fabulous hotel room with the massive bed. Thanks for that.

I get so restless and frustrated when we go home, because that's where OUR journey started, and yet my husband and I never get a chance to slip away and recapture that...sigh.

I'm so glad you had the chance--well done.

What a wonderful story - I feel refreshed just thinking about it. Imagine how I'd feel if I'd actually done it... I'm thinking I should plan a short trip, too. Especially before the baby gets here.

Ah, the freedom to sit silently in the car... I miss it so.

What I want to know, though, is whether Dave minded you not singing "if you're happy..." sorry, couldn't help myself. :)
Sounds like a grand trip. It never seizes to amaze me how little time is needed for things that return you to yourself, that make you feel able to take on the world again. And I am not just talking about the king size bed. :)

I've always thought that Quebec City is the most romantic city in the world - possibly because I've been there three times, but never with a significant other. Only six hours away from you! What a treat.

That was a gorgeous piece of sharing.

It reminds me that the last, true road trip my husband and I took without little passengers was from Ontario to PEI, near a decade ago.

Gulp.

We're so overdue.
