I have taken my son Ryan (30 mos) for his first skate recently. We have gone twice now. The funny part is that he hated the ice but he kept saying "I go skating!" Here in vancouver we can rent skates at the community centres. My sister a figures skating coach (down in Dallas Tx now)recommended we start him on girls skates and get him to march. Ryan did do better with the picks than the hockey style skate. She also said to switch to hockey skates once he is used to the idea of skating. She also encouraged me to continue eventhough he mostly likes walking around (off the ice). Happy new year!

You can skate backward while holding a toddler?! I am so impressed. Wow, you really are Canadian.

And I love your hat.
